No Time to Read?

You’re Not Alone!

According to one study by the National Endowment for the Arts, the average adult (in the U.S.) reads just 20 minutes per day. That’s not very much!

If you are an average reader, that translates to 15-20 pages/day. (Even if you read more than that….I’ll bet you don’t get to read all you would like to, or all that you feel you should).

I have heard most of my life that “Leaders are Readers” and that “Growing organizations are led by growing leaders.” I firmly believe both of those things—but just believing it doesn’t make it happen.

I am a pastor, and I know how important it is for me to read, in order to grow and develop my skills so I can lead more effectively. And because I am committed to growing and becoming the best leader I can be, I regularly buy books that will help me grow.

In fact, right now I have a stack of books in my office to help me do that, and I’m sure they would…if I could get to them.

The problem is that I also know what it is to have constant demands on my time, frequent interruptions, and a work load that never ends. Taking time away from those urgent tasks is not easy! I’ve often felt lucky to find 20 minutes a day to read. And I like to read!

Whether you are a pastor or you lead in some other arena, I bet you know what I’m talking about!

Now there is a solution!

Leaders Book Summaries provides condensed versions of the best books on leadership, management, personal and church growth…so you can actually get to them. You can easily read one summary in 20 minutes, even if you are just an “average” reader. Which means you can invest in yourself while maximizing the time you have available.

Here’s what you get with Leaders Book Summaries:

  • 30 Book Summaries per year (or choose the Premium plan and get instant access to all our archives...over 100 more summaries!)
  • Clear and concise, 12-15 page summaries of each book
  • 2-page Executive Summary of each book
  • Titles from leading Christian and secular authors

And here’s the best part-- a Carnegie-Mellon University study proved that we actually retain more of what we read in a summary than we do when reading a whole book. So not only can you cover more in less time, you will remember more also.

As I think back on all the books I’ve read over the years, there are a few that stand out—the ones I go back to over and over. You probably have a few books like that too. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an idea ahead of time which books those are? I also have a lot of books I’ve read that were, shall we say, less than memorable. And others that have had some great points, but a lot of chaff mixed in.

That’s another way Leaders Book Summaries can help. You can screen your reading. Sometimes after reading a summary, you will say, “I have to get that book! I need to read the whole thing!” Other times you will say, “I’m glad I didn’t take the time, and spend the money, on that one—I got all I need out of the summary.” Either way, you win.

One final benefit—you will save money. At only $6.95/month, you can maximize your reading budget too. That comes out to less than $3.00/summary; even if you are buying used books in average to poor condition on Amazon, I doubt if you can beat that price!
